ATHENS, Greece -- Protesters clashed with police in central Athens during a second day of demonstrations Thursday, as lawmakers prepared to vote on creditor-demanded measures that will usher in additional income losses for Greeks over the next three years.

A small number of masked youths broke out from a crowd of about 15,000 people protesting peacefully outside parliament and threw gasoline bombs at riot police, who responded with tear gas. No injuries or arrests were immediately reported.

The evening protest was organized by major trade unions.

In the morning, hundreds of pensioners braved …

US police have identified the two men killed by a white supremacist on a train in Portland as they attempted to defend passengers the suspect was bullying.

On Friday, Jeremy Joseph Christian - a 35-year-old who was known to authorities - stabbed to death 53-year-old Ricky John Best and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, 23, after they stepped in to defend two girls Christian was bullying.

At least one of the girls was wearing a headscarf and is believed to be Muslim.

Canada Should Think Twice About Fixing The Unfixable TPP

[Between his continued support for the F35 and his unwillingness to let TPP die a natural death, Trudeau is blindly following exactly the same ideologically-driven set of policy zombies that Harper pursued. *RON*]

Reopening any negotiated deal offers a chance to fix what was wrong in the first place.

Unifor has been a long-standing critic of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Like other unions and NGOs, we've consistently called for a NAFTA rethink.

It is for that reason we welcomed the reopening of the NAFTA, even if led by a U.S. President that we so vehemently disagree with on almost every point.

NAFTA has enabled the capital flight of multi-national firms, as has global free trade more broadly. That has inflicted great pain on working people and their communities. Renegotiating NAFTA gives us a chance to address concerns with two of our most important trading partners, and craft a deal that act…

OTTAWA — Canada has quietly paid another $30 million toward the development of the F-35 — money that could become insurance in the trade dispute between U.S. aerospace firm Boeing and Canadian rival Bombardier.

The annual payment was made to the U.S. military at the end of April, the Department of National Defence says, and will keep Canada at the table as one of nine partners in the fighter jet project for the next year.

Canada has paid US$373 million into the program since 1997, National Defence spokeswoman Jessica Lamirande said in an email.

Staying in the program has advantages, as partners can compete for billions of dollars worth of contracts associated with the building and maintaining F-35. They also get a discount when purchasing the plane.

That latter point wasn't c…

Andrew Scheer Wins Conservative Leadership Race To Replace Stephen Harper

[With a baker's dozen of "Who is that?" candidates, it was a weird leadership race. I'm glad that Maxime Bernier failed to get in. Also unappetizing: 'We won': anti-abortion groups declare victory after Andrew Scheer named new Conservative leader. He makes an effort to be seen to push 'one big tent' Conservatism in his acceptance speech, which is more than one can say for Maxime Bernier [who] Says He'll Keep ‘A List Of Everyone Who Was With Me' In Tory Leadership Race. *RON*]
