The Trudeau government approved a major fossil fuel project expected to cause "significant" damage to west coast ecosystems based on misleading and inaccurate evidence submitted on behalf of a Malaysian oil giant, according to peer-reviewed scientific research published this week.

The new research found that consultants working for Petronas — the company behind the controversial $36-billion Pacific NorthWest Liquified Natural Gas project (PNW LNG) — gave the government some flimsy evidence that neglected to mention how its proposal would harm vulnerable Pacific salmon.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's cabinet approved PNW LNG in September on the premise that the "significant adverse environmental effects" it would likely cause are "justified in the circumstances." The new research casts doubt on whether the Trudeau government i…

Canada's Anti-Islamophobia Motion A Shining Example To The World

On Oct. 26 2016, the House of Commons, Canada's Parliament, adopted unanimously a motion to condemn all forms of Islamophobia in the country.

The fact that the motion received no objection from any of the federal parties shows that the Liberal, NDP, Conservative and Bloc Quebecois members have a clear understanding that Islamophobia is a severe form of bigotry and is not a simple subject that can be ignored anymore. It has become a critical illness that raises concerns and requires a forceful push back from the federal legislators that represent all Canadians to denounce Islamophobia.

WASHINGTON — For a look at how sharply policy in Washington will change under the administration of Donald J. Trump, look no further than the environment.

Mr. Trump has called human-caused climate change a “hoax.” He has vowed to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency “in almost every form.”

And in an early salvo against one of President Obama’s signature issues, Mr. Trump has named Myron Ebell of the business-backed Competitive Enterprise Institute to head his E.P.A. transition team. Mr. Ebell has asserted that whatever warming caused by greenhouse gas pollution is modest and could be beneficial. A 2007 Vanity Fair profile of Mr. Ebell called him an “oil industry mouthpiece.”

RALEIGH, N.C. — While one report of Ku Klux Klan activity in North Carolina after Donald Trump’s election as president was debunked, the real KKK has announced a rally in the state.

Trump, a Republican, was officially endorsed by the KKK during his campaign against Hillary Clinton, a Democrat. Trump won North Carolina on his way to winning the presidency, defeating Clinton in the state by nearly 5 percentage points.

The whole Democratic Party is now a smoking pile of rubble

If Donald Trump’s win were the Democratic Party’s only problem, the party’s leaders would be justified in affecting a certain amount of complacency. After all, in a year when fundamentals-based models predicted a narrow Republican victory, Clinton actually pulled out a majority of the popular vote. That makes the Democrats from 1992 to 2016 the only political party in American history to win the popular vote in six elections out of seven. It’s actually kind of impressive.

What’s less impressive is that at the sub-presidential level, the Obama years have created a Democratic Party that’s essentially a smoking pile of rubble.

Aaron Rupar, ThinkProgress, 10 November 2016

In the final weeks of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, he pledged to “drain the swamp” in Washington, D.C. by, among other things, introducing tough new restrictions on lobbying.

“I am proposing a package of ethics reforms to make our government honest once again,” Trump said during the October 17 appearance in Green Bay, Wisconsin where he first used the “drain the swamp” line.

It appears Trump is already backtracking on that pledge. Politico reports that “lobbyists are all over” Trump’s transition team. Those lobbyists include Cindy Hayden of tobacco company Altria; Michael Torrey, owner of a lobbying firm repr…
